Meet October's Event Chairs!
brought to you by your reporter on the beat
Walk-a-thon: Amy, Fran, and Alicia
What a great Walk-a-thon event we had this year! This event is our largest annual fundraiser that brings in money for field trips, theater productions, author visits, family events, and more that would otherwise go unfunded.
We had 300 students walking a total of 4,744 laps, or 1,186 miles. That is, our school all together walked to Disney World in Orlando, Florida!
Check out our picture gallery, including kid and volunteer quotes!
Amy
"I like the energy and the fun the kids have during the event; how excited they are when they walk. This is my first year as co-coordinator."
Fran
"I wanted to do something to help out the school, and it has been really fun working with the other parents. We had a really good response from businesses. This is my first year as co-coordinator."
Alicia
"I like the idea of fitness. Raising money with fitness as our idea is positive and brings families together. At lunch the kids walk together. These are good community builders. This is my 9th year volunteering and my 5th year as co-coordinator."
Congratulations to the committee for a successful event. A special thank you to all our walk-a-thon volunteers and sponsors! We live in an amazing community that cares about our kids.
Teacher Appreciation Dinner: Becky
On parent-teacher conference day, parents show their appreciation by bringing in a dish. Teachers grab a bite between conferences, and often have enough for lunch the next day too.
Becky
"I like it when teachers come in and see all that food and get all excited. I like being able to do that for them because they feel appreciated. One year someone even brought in a whole salmon, beautifully presented!
It's my fifth year coordinating the teacher dinner."
A huge thanks to Becky for coordinating, and to all the volunteers bringing in food tomorrow for the dinner. Enjoy conferences!
