Celebrate Bach's diversity by sampling foods from around the world, watching the fashion show, visiting displays from many cultures, and enjoying multi-cultural entertainment. Passports and stamps are provided by the PTO. Offered every other year. No admission fee.

Ice Cream Social
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! In addition to ice cream, enjoy pizza, popsicles, games, and dancing in the streets. This is the last event of the school year, designed to celebrate and give back to the school's families, teachers and staff as well as neighborhood family and friends. This is not a fund-raiser, but a "break-even" event. Purchase tickets for food, drinks, and games.

Incoming Kindergarten Playgroup
Get to know your incoming Kindergartener's classmates and their families before the first day of school. Although the group usually meets at the Bach playground, the location and schedule vary from year to year. No admission fee.

Lunch Enrichment
Grades 1-5 are invited to sign up for small group activities led by parent volunteers interested in sharing their hobbies during January inside recess. Ideas: arts and crafts, codes and ciphers, drawing, knitting, science experiments, quiet reading, no-bake cooking, dance. No admission fee.

March is Reading Month
The PTO supports the Media Center to celebrate the nationally recognized March is Reading Month. Students are encouraged to read during the month of March, and the minutes are recorded by students and their parents each week on sheets sent home prior to the event. Parent volunteers tally the minutes, and all children receive a prize for reading 50 minutes, another prize for 100 minutes, and more prizes for other minute increments. Top ten readers from each grade and the school's top ten readers receive special prizes at an assembly at the end of the month. Special activities, including family reading night are offered during March. On family reading night, parents and children are invited to come listen to stories read in English and other languages, and stay for snacks at no charge in the Multi-purpose room. Other events vary from year to year, so be sure to check the Bach School newsletter. There is no charge for any March is Reading Month events.

Movie Night
Bring your pajamas, pillow, and blanket, and enjoy a G rated movie (ie Racing Stripes, Cars, Happy Feet, Meet the Robinsons) in the Multipurpose room. Popcorn, juices, bottled water and snacks are available for purchase. Parents can drop off their school-age kids, or choose to stay and have fun with the group. Pre-school siblings are welcome if parents stay. Parents must return at the designated time and sign out their kids. No admission fee.

National African-American Parent Involvement Day All parents are invited to spend all or part of NAAPID in the classroom with their children. Pizza is provided for parent guests for lunch. Started in 1995 by distinguished educator Joseph Dulin of Ypsilanti, this day encourages parents to become more involved in their child's education. No admission fee.

Pancake Dinner
Enjoy stacks of pancakes served with syrup, butter, juice and milk in the Multi-purpose room. This event is held on the same day as Kindergarten visitation, so it is a great opportunity to socialize with both veteran and first time Bach School parents and kids. After eating, kids often head to the playground to continue the fun. Admission fee

Science Olympiad
At the Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad held annually in June, each school team participates in pre-defined event challenges. The event teams are comprised of students in grades 2 through 5. Beginning in March, student teams prepare for their event competition by practicing once per week, under the guidance of coaches. Students may participate in more than one event practice but may be limited by schedule conflicts and event popularity. During practices and the tournament, students apply a variety of scientific facts, concepts, processes, and applications to solve problems. The main goal is for students to learn about science through hands-on, active, group participation. For district WESO details and event descriptions please see: WESO Website To learn more about our schools events or to register, please see our Bach WESO website. Suggested donation.

Walk-a-thon
Join us for this fun family event, our biggest fundraiser of the year, where fitness is the theme. Students sign up sponsors on their walk-a-thon sheet provided prior to the event. Sponsors may donate an amount per lap or a flat fee. During walk-a-thon week, students (with their adults if they wish) may elect to walk both during lunch hour (the lunch walk-a-thon) and on Saturday but only one set of laps will count for prizes. One lap is approximately one quarter mile and is walked around the big playground (lunch) or around the school (Saturday). Parent volunteers help tally laps for each child. Food and drinks are provided by our local sponsors and are available on Saturday morning. Top walkers are awarded prizes provided by our local sponsors.
